In Just one year Jack gained tie wealth And sailed for home next day. The pals shock hands, shook hands to part Poor Joe could only say: Chorus: "Give my love to Nellie Jack And kiss her once for me The fairest girl in all the world I'm sure you'll say 'tis she. Two years had passed, till Joe at last Had gained enough for life He sailed back home, across the foam To make sweet Nell his wife: And then he hears that Jack and Nell One year ago have wed Then he sighs, and frets, and says I wish I never had said.
